Item 2010 - BS004
"Hatchling Dragon Teeth"
13 x Ivory Art Glass Lampwork Beads,
approx. 16mm to 17mm long by 12mm to 14mm in diameter.
It is perhaps a little less well known that a rare journal penned by an unknown hand has survived through to modern times and has by chance been recently discovered in a small cave in the Highlands of Scotland. In this journal are descriptions of Dragons from close contact, and the rarest of all rare items, that of the Dragon Whelps first Hatchling teeth. Useful only prior to weaning from yearling Dwarves, Hobbits, Worgs and other such small but tasty prey that Dragon whelps are so partial to. Within the journal is a lengthy description of how many, many souls were lost in quests to gather these teeth from high in the Misty Mountains. For one had to climb high, high up to, then enter within a Dragon's nesting cave and obtain them by searching amongst the rotting detritus on the floor of the cave. Truly a perilous endeavor indeed, and not one to undertake out of mere greed or frivolity, for it required great stealth and cunning, rather than that of a powerful hand. So it is written within the pages of the ancient journal. This in its self is a surprising revelation, but even more surprising is a footnote penned near the back of the journal in different hand. Perhaps it was the hand of an ancient Wizard or Alchemist? No one will ever know, but what it reveals is truly amazing.... Written in an ink of the purest and most startling indigo to befall that of a human eye is a recipe with instructions on how to produce an accurate facsimile of a Hatchling Dragon Whelp Tooth, but.... in the finest of Italian Art Glass. Ok, ok, so yes.... I did get a bit carried away with this description, but these very beautiful and inspirational beads are very versatile too. Small enough for earrings, yet large enough for most other jewellery projects, perhaps looking at them will also give you inspiration. As you can see this has certainly been the case with me as evidenced above, and funny to say so now, but this was in fact (according to the journal that is) one of the many purposes they were given to in ancient times.... John (Scottish-lampwork)
